As we near approach the colder months of the year, dreaded winter skin comes out to play. Luckily we have the perfect tips and products for all your winter skin concerns! With colder, shorter days coming along, it is crucial that we incorporate certain skincare ingredients into our winter routine as well as maintain healthy lifestyle habits.

There are many factors which contribute to dry skin. These can be both internal and external. External factors are more likely to cause dry skin. While internal factors include one’s overall health, genetics and age. On the other hand, external factors such as low moisture levels, cold weather are more likely to cause dry skin. We have gathered our top 5 skincare ingredients which we feel are highly beneficial to dry winter skin.

5 skincare ingredients to add to your routine this winter:

1. Vitamin C:

Air pollution tends to be worse during winter. Therefore incorporating vitamin C is a beneficial way of ensuring your skin will be protected with its antioxidant benefits. We recommend the Mizon Real Vitamin C Ampoule as it is perfect for providing hydration as well as anti-aging benefits. We recommend using this ampoule before moisturising and thereafter locking it in with a thick moisturiser of your choice.

2. Squalene:

The reason I love winter so much is because I can pamper my skin with facial oils. In warmer months, facial oils can tend to feel thick and greasy on the skin. However, in winter, facial oils are the just the right product our skin needs for an extra boost of hydration. More specifically Squalene oil as the antioxidants found in it aid in increased moisture which is exactly what our skin needs on colder, dryer days. We recommend the Village 11 Daily Mild Sun Cream as it is formulated with squalene to hydrate the skin.

3. Hyaluronic Acid:

Incorporating a hyaluronic acid serum into your winter skincare routine will tremendously increase your skin’s moisture levels. We adore the Mizon Bio Hyaluronic Acid Ampoule as it is a 50% concentrate of hyaluronic acid which works to combat inflammation, replenish moisture, and protect skin from further dryness. Leaving skin feeling hydrated, soft and supple. Luxe Tip: remember to layer all your desired serums FIRST before sealing them in with your favourite moisturiser.

4. Ceramides:

This wonder ingredient helps to hold the skin together by forming a protective layer that limits moisture loss and protects against visible damage from pollution. We recommend the Beauty of Joseon Glow Serum as its rich, honey-like yet non stick texture effectively moisturises the skin. Leaving skin looking glowy and dewy.

5. Green Tea:

This ingredient is packed with many anti-inflammatory properties which are amazing when trying to reduce skin redness, irritation and swelling. We recommend the Benton Deep Green Tea Toner as well as the Benton Deep Green Tea Lotion. We especially love this range as they both instantly boost the skin’s moisture levels. On the other hand, incorporating fresh green tea into your diet is recommended as this tea is a wonder at giving your immune system an extra kick.

Winter Wellness tips:

  • Moisturise skin immediately after showering and even on damp skin. This will help restore any moisture lost during your shower and your body heat from the shower will aid in maximum absorption.
  • Sway more towards thick, moisturising creams and body lotions. Shea butters are amazing for moisturising the body and leave you smelling delicious.

  • Ensure to always apply a lip treatment throughout the day to prevent lips from peeling and chapping. The Laneige Grapefruit Lip Sleeping Mask is my absolute favourite as it not only smells incredible but is the only product which I feel really moisturises and hydrates my lips. Leaving them feeling soft and smoother than ever.

  • Keep central heating usage to a minimum. This tends to create a dry environment which can further dry your skin out.
  • Add moisture to dry air with a humidifier. Humidifiers have many benefits such as it not only prevents dry skin but it can also relieve many allergy symptoms. If you are someone who tends to get a bit more congested and sniffy during the colder months, try adding a few drops of eucalyptus oil to your humidifier. This is a real game changer!
  • Winter is the season for flu’s and colds. Protect yourself and your loved ones with incorporating daily vitamins into your diet which will boost your immune system and lessen your chances of catching any unwanted colds.

  • Make sure to boost your daily water intake. During the colder months, we tend to forget to drink enough water. If you find it difficult to complete your daily water intake, opt for other options such as green tea and lemon teas. This will leave you feeling hydrated, healthy and cozy all at the same time 🥰☕️.
